Located on the Upper East Side, on East 61st Street and Madison Avenue, the 1950s-era Carlton House, with its limestone-and-brick facade, has the kind of elegant appearance that only comes with age. Inside, however, are the luxuries that one would expect of a brand-new build, thanks to a meticulous restoration being overseen by the New York architecture firm Beyer Blinder Belle. Charged with decorating the interiors is the Toronto-based firm Katherine Newman Design, whose selections for the property’s 68 two- to six-bedroom residences include polished marble floors, wood-paneled entry foyers, and Pearl or Mink color palettes. The homes’ kitchens and bathroom vanities are custom, and the appliances are from Miele and Sub-Zero. Prices range from $2.9 million for a two-bedroom unit to $65 million for a two-story duplex with wraparound terraces and a roof deck with views of the city skyline and Central Park. All owners will have access to the Carlton House’s 24-hour concierge services, a lifestyle consultant, a 65-foot indoor pool, a fitness center, a game room, and private storage areas by late 2014 when the building is complete.
